Few days

I’m a bit bored/not at all tired so I thought I’d post a new blog.

First things first- big thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes and presents.  I had a good day even though I had a 4 hour class to go to (well I did disappear early and was sitting on a nice warm train by 5pm).  It’s so scary that I’m gonna be turning the big 2-0 next year!

Anyway, on to other matters….I can’t believe how quickly the weeks are flying.  This Monday will be week 11 of uni…. WEEK 11!

Fair enough, I only have two pieces of work to hand in- my java polymorphism bank account program and my website (ask me nicely and I’ll give you the link so you can view it).  The website has to be handed in first- two weeks on Monday.  It’s coming along nicely but it has its flaws.  I’m currently in the process of trying to fix the javascript (when I say currently, I mean I’m actually sitting doing that right now- yes, on a Saturday night/Sunday morning whatever time it is).  Once that’s sorted, I have an animation to put in and some cookies (no, not the things you eat).

I am going to get my own website before Christmas- I’ll need something to do over the holidays.  As a few of you might know, I’m not overly fond of Xmas and I’d rather give myself something to work on, something I can focus my energy into instead of sitting around idly thinking about things.  Further details to come!  Basically, I just want somewhere to host my own blog (ok this is myspace but it’s not really “mine” if you get what I mean?) and somewhere to put some pictures of mine.

On another note, I have actually installed Warcraft (like all 5 GB ‘s of it…mammoth game!).  Haven’t managed to play it yet- it’s patching.  I’ll try the free trial and will just have to hope and pray I don’t get addicted.

If I look more tired than usual, literally start sleeping in lectures (a la Lewis), stop attending classes and fail uni entirely then it’s all because of Warcraft and we all know who to blame (Pyr0phr34k, I’m looking at you ).

That’s all for the now folks- need to go do some website related stuff.

Not old, just older

Well, tomorrow is going to be my last day as an 18 year old- scary huh?   For all you lot who are so deeply concerned (not), yes, “18 ’til I Die” will still remain as my theme song, after all, “its not how ya look its what ya feel inside…….” yada yada enough with all the singing.

As my mother eagerly pointed out, 19 will be my last year as a teenager (why thank you, that fact had completely escaped my notice).  I don’t really care about being 19; there is nothing significant about it other than it signifies I’ve been on planet Earth for an amount of time.

Do people actually expect you to act more grown up the older you get?  Sorry to disappoint but I *really* don’t think that’s going to happen in my case.  I will continue to watch Disney films,  I will burst out laughing every time Dr Zoidberg makes that ridiculous noise on Futurama (you know the one I mean) and I will be every bit as sarcastic as ever (that’s a promise).

Anyway, time for a quick quote (and it happens to be one of my favourites)-

“Growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional” ;)

Week 9…

What can I say?  This week has probably been the most stressful week I have had in a long time (I think I was less stressed during the Project X presentation).  I was so stressed by Thursday afternoon that if anyone had actually come up to me and said “what’s wrong?”, I would have bitten their head off, spewed everything that I was feeling at that particular moment in time  and then burst in to flames.

I have nothing against working with others- most of the time I enjoy it.  It’s a great chance to meet some new people.  However, when I’m in a team, I like to give it my all.  I might not particularly enjoy what I’m doing but it still has to be done.  After all, nothing worth doing in life is ever easy (well unless you’ve done it before or are some kind of genius who just finds everything easy).

There are others who just don’t give a shit about anything and that annoys me.

Everyone who attends uni is there to better themselves.  It’s not like school; you’re not forced to go, you’re there voluntarily.  I’m there because I want a great career, a good wage, a nice house and a cool car (yes I would like a pink VW Beatle, the kind I believe Barbie “drives”….can she drive….she’s a doll?).

If you’re not going to make a strong effort then why attend?

And a really big thank you should go out to all the people who have had to put up with me this week.  If you guys hadn’t sat and listened to my fustrations and had all those cups of tea with me,  well, I might actually have exploded and left one hell of a mess for you to clean up.  Apologies for being a moody, grumpy bitch.  Cheers guys.

Oh, and a big thank you has to go to Colin too for giving my Space Invaders on my laptop (and I sat and played it on the train on Friday hehe).

Anyway, I have one heck of a headache coming on but I think I’m going to go do some work on my website (yes its coursework I actually enjoy…hurrah!)

What a week, eh?

Hey folks,

I meant to write a blog earlier in the week but just didn’t quite get round to it.

It has been an eventful week- there was a piece of news I received on Wednesday evening and it really wasn’t good. I’m unsure as to who out there knows (don’t know if you guys have been told yet) so I don’t really want to go into specifics. All I’ll say is someone close to me has a scary illness and I really want them to hurry up and get better. As I said, I did mean to get more of my uni work done on Wednesday evening but I was in a wee bit of shock and really didn’t feel like doing much of anything.

Thursday night was quite good though- went to the Queens Hotel in Aberdeen to the regional finals of Amplified! Of course I was there in support of Carnevil (for anyone who doesn’t know who there are check out www.carnevil.co.uk or www.myspace.com/friendsandenemies ). The band did really well (despite Alex’s G-string breaking during the first song……honestly if you hadn’t told us, we would never have known!). I did take some pictures but I haven’t got them developed yet.

Sadly, they didn’t get through to the finals although in my opinion, they were much better than some of the bands who did get through. They’re definitely going from strength to strength with their new line-up so keep up the good work guys!

There were quite a few other performers I like- Nice For Flowers (great opening act), Steely Glint (awesome blues rock- half expected them to launch into a rendition of Johnny B. Good), Grant Morrison (solo performer with just an acoustic guitar- what a voice that guy had).

I was a bit knackered after that as I didn’t arrive home until midnight. When I got home I still found time to have a shower, get a cup of tea (well I was desperate for one) and fix my website. Amazingly I managed to get up the next morning at 6am and get the early train to uni.

Nothing much has happened today. I’m currently working on my website for uni but I think I’m going to write my report for my Java API project soon. Also, I’ll need to get my Java groupwork project done tomorrow- I can’t believe that needs to be handed in by next Friday- big eeekkkk!

A big thanks need to go to pyr0phr34k for bringing me a wireless card on Friday until I get one of my own . Currently in search of drivers!

Anyway, I’m just sitting here procrastinating, typing this up. It’s about time I grabbed another cup of tea and got some more work done.

Who knows , my next entry in here could be at 3am tomorrow morning when I’m struggling to make sense of some code (just like last week haha).

See ya!

Visual Basic is laughing at me

Look at the time this was posted. I’ve been sitting here for ages stressing myself out about the last Visual Basic program I had to get done for my folio (for those of you who have the tutorial 6 there, I did the Marks program).

I’ve been stuck here for HOURS with one small problem.  One incy, tiny, wee bit of code and the problem was solved, just like that.  I’m now annoyed with myself for not figuring it out sooner.

Call myself a programmer eh?

I *really* think its about time I toddle off to bed- need to be up bright and early to finish my report!

Argh more work

Well this is going to be one exciting weekend- time to type up my Visual Basic report.  I have 3 out of 5 programs totally sorted out.  There’s just a couple which I need to tweak a little.  I still have to go into uni on Monday to hand it in but I don’t have any classes.

I *really* need to work on my java programming this weekend.  The book program is coming along quite nicely but I need to get a good start on my API program.

Aside from that, I want to do some work on my website- needs fixing up/slight re-think.

I’m seriously considering getting my own webspace, maybe somewhere I can put some of my pictures.  I could even have a blog hosted there too!  Might get one around Christmas…we’ll see.
