I’ve spent the afternoon in front of the TV, sitting watching E! True Hollywood Story: Friends- as some of you may know, I’m a massive Friends fan. Most of the content in the documentary was familiar but good nonetheless- it was interesting to see how a group of relatively unknown people rose to fame.
They have certainly provided the laughs over the years, giving us some classic lines over the years- “how you doin’?” and “OH MY GAWD!” to name but a few.
And who can forget Chandler and his razor-sharp wit? ” Why yes Ross, pressing my third nipple opens the delivery entrance to the magical land of Narnia.” and “Hi, my name’s Chandler. I just moved in next door and I was wondering if you would be interested in battling me in a post-apoplectic world for control of the galaxies last remaining energy source?”
Towards the end of the program, they got to talking about the final season and it made me reminisce back to the days of 2004 when the last episode was aired on the 28th of May. In all honesty, that’s the only episode that I’ve seen just one time- I wasn’t particularly happy that my favourite sitcom was about to end (even thought it had run it’s course). It’s not like it was the best episode ever (c’mon there was no final laugh at the very end) yet it still made me cry. Can’t believe that was nearly 3 years ago- that was the year I began my last year of school and said goodbye to some of my own friends. Time sure does fly!
Who knows, in a few years time the Friends cast might get back together for a reunion show? Until then, we have endless repeats to keep us laughing (but do they have to be on every day?).

Hello my dedicated followers! I bet you thought something had happened to me seeing as I haven’t posted a blog since Saturday. The good news- I’m ok!
The reason I haven’t posted- I don’t think I’ve been up to anything that’s remotely interesting and didn’t feel like I had much to say over the past few days. Maybe I couldn’t get my thoughts together in order to post a blog, I don’t know? Anyways, I’ll give a quick round-up shall I?
Tuesday was a fantastic day- as soon as I got home it started to snow. It was so pretty- just sitting there, looking upwards at the millions of tiny white flakes dancing in the sky, watching as they gently rested on the ground before dissolving into the grey concrete. Very relaxing. I did film the snow however I can’t put the footage here because it would eat all of my bandwidth (and you nice people don’t want my site to be suspended do you?).
Wednesday was certainly an interesting day. I had a large Java lecture at 1pm. It’s definitely one of the longest ones I’ve had but it actually started to make some sense (amazingly)! I managed to get the tutorial done fairly quickly and was out of there by 3.30pm. Now I just need to sit around and play with swing until I master it. Hopefully we will be doing serialisation very soon- something I’ve done before in Java. I guess today’s work involved a little of that.
On arriving at the train station, I bumped into a familiar face- Creg, someone who I haven’t spoken to properly face-to-face for a couple of years. Turns out he was heading North too so I spent the entire journey yapping to him. It was really good to see him again and catch up- known him since we were both in primary one!
When I got home, I tinkered around with some old computers but couldn’t be bothered faffing around with them. I ended up going a couple of doors up and looking at the neighbours’ pc…not sure how to fix the problem though but I’ll find out. It’s an odd one. Ended up spending 2 hours yapping there as well! I arrived home around 10.30pm and drank my first cider. Nice stuff- doesn’t taste like alcohol really!
Anyways, I’m off folks. Sweet Dreams!
PS- Happy Birthday Mr Silence!

Have you seen the notice on the index page of this site? No? I’ll just let you know that the site is having a small facelift (well not a full-blown facelift, more like an injection of botox here and there). In the process things will be broken, images with be skewed and it’s likely the whole place will look like it has been designed by a monkey with limited web-fu skills (actually, the site is like that anyway).
Just to keep you updated, here are some improvements I’m (attempting) to make-
- Add a bar at the top which displays a random quote (this is working in all pages bar the blog).
- Home page needs a pretty picture and more content.
- Blog- images should be centered?
- Reduce text on mian photo page.
- A better link structure to individual galleries.
- The guitars page needs some “back to top” links
- Fix how the guitar page is displayed in IE6 and Opera (in the process of playing with this now….not going well).
- Contact page needs a picture.
- On the links page, text need to float right.
- All pages need a footer.
So, not much to do then? Right?

Oh what a day it has been so far…..things generally seem to have gone wrong.
- I forgot to bring my iPod on the train with me this morning which was a bit annoying but not too bad. Things got steadily worse…
- Turns out, Lisa was on the same train as me so walked up to the university. We had plenty time to spare and decided to go see one of our tutors to get our feedback for our website. As we walked into the uni, we noticed something wasn’t right. It was distinctly empty and rather dark. It seemed half the lighting in the foyer was off (at this point, I thought perhaps the electrics in the foyer had fused). We walked up to the 4th floor and it was the same situation there- the electric in the whole building had been off since just after 9am. It was an odd feeling- I had a quick look in the main lab and it was eerie. No noise of computers, no nothing. Seems we were in the middle of a major powercut!
- The servers were down as well meaning no wireless, no webmail, no access to our drives and a ton of chaos.
- After hanging around for a while to see what was happening with the power situation at the uni, we were informed that it was going to close so we headed off for our train (or so we thought). The one we planned to get was cancelled because of the bad weather in England.
- Finally, I arrived back home again (after a bit of a waste of half the day) and was greeted by half the milk from the fridge al over the kitchen floor. Nice.
On the plus side, I got my feedback for my coursework website. I thought I’d dropped a mark but I technically hadn’t- an A19 was really the maximum you could have got. Quite pleased about that.
Anyway, I’m currently in the middle of attempting to clean and tidy my room. I don’t like a mess but it’s been a little neglected due to the coursework I’ve been doing. That will be rectified ASAP (hopefully!).

Attention avid reader(s)- you should notice a slight change in my blog (well, that’s if you’ve been paying attention).
So what have I done? Previously, when updating the look of the blog, I didn’t add a link taking you to my guitars page: that has been rectified. Aside from that, I have expanded the area where the text of the blog sits. Finally, I have played around with the side bar, reducing the size of the grey headers and aligning them to the left. I wanted to get rid of the grey bars down the side of the blog however, when I did, it didn’t look quite right- they are here to stay (like it or not).
Today wasn’t the most exciting day however, it was snowing in Dundee this morning. It was beautiful (before it decided to turn to rain anyway). Couldn’t you just sit and watch the snow all day? It’s really neat if you sit next to a window, look upwards and watch the way each individual flake tumbles down out of the sky before settling in it’s rightful place on the ground. It wasn’t snowy here sadly (last nights snow turned to snow).
In other news, I got the mark for my website back. I managed to get an A- didn’t think I was going to get one of those. I’ll need to go get my feedback sheet to see where I can improve in the future.
As I’m typing, I’m currently sitting listening to Sarah McLachlan whose music I highly recommend (anyone heard of her?). I’m not entirely sure what genre she fits into. It’s not classical, not quite chillout music and it’s not pop. It is however very nice and relaxing- she has one hell a voice (Amy Lee from Evanescense reminds me of her). Her best album (well my favourite anyway) is ”Fumbling Towards Ecstasy” and is featured heavily in the tv series Due South (but I have ”Surfacing” on at the moment).
January 16th 2007
Hey folks,
Today was supposed to be a long day for me (5 solid hours of class). Instead, my afternoon was spent taking pictures (you see, I escaped from a tutorial early and the lab I was supposed to have in the afternoon wasn’t running).
First of all, I went to the Montrose Seafront Splash area. I managed to get some shots of the Minesweeper (gorgeous statue designed by William Lamb). Aside from that, I got some snaps of Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, the shoreline and some rocks. The noise of the waves crashing on the shore was so relaxing- I can’t imagine living anywhere else other than on the coast. I’d miss the roar of the sea (by the way, I have no intention of moving anywhere soon).
I then went to Montrose Harbour where there is a large memorial statue to Bamse, a dog who lived aboard Thorodd, a Norwegian Navy minesweeper during World War 2 and saved the lives of a few soldiers (for more about Bamse, click here). The statue itself is beautifully crafted- a fitting tribute. I got quite a few shots of that along with the new road bridge and a general shot of some big boats in the harbour.
One more thing to mention- when I was taking pictures at the harbour, there was a wee seal playing around in the water. I’ve heard people say they have seen seals in the Basin when they were on the train but I’d never seen any there before.

I acknowledge that I haven’t really been online very much over the past few days. Fear not, nothing bad has happened- I’ve just been working on yet another Visual Basic folio. That was handed in today (not entirely happy about it mind you, but it’s done nonetheless).
I was planning to be online, chatting tonight but I got a little sidetracked-
- I upgraded WordPress
- Upgraded from AVG free 7.1 to version 7.5
- Installed Netbeans (apparently this may help when I’m using Swing?
- Created a backup of all my pictures
- Installed Opera (well I just wanted to see what it was like. It’s cool but I’m still a huge fan of Firefox).
- Installed Ruby (programming language)
- Installed Python (yes, another programming language)
I did make an attempt to defrag my hard drive but it was taking forever so that will have to be done another day.
Now, I think its about time I cook some popcorn, make a large cup of tea and go watch a film…..but what to watch?

It has been brought to my attention (by spawnofthemist and Mr Skiba mainly) that I never smile all that much. I accept I don’t walk around grinning like a Cheshire cat. I promise you that I’m not unhappy (for the most part) – I guess I just wear a natural pout on my face? Well either that or I’m subconsciously trying to prevent myself from getting wrinkles? Who knows?
If everyone walked around all smiley, wouldn’t it be a little creepy (like in Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” video? There would probably be some sort of lock-jaw epidemic.
So, if you would like to see me smile, just ask! I won’t eat you!
EDIT: I’m really not being moany/grumpy, I’m just being sarcastic
