Commitment to the environment?

A topical blog for once.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, the General Election is being held in Britain on Thursday 3rd May. Anyone who has failed to notice this deserves a slap, owing to the fact it’s all over the TV, billboards, street and is coming through your letterbox on a daily basis. In fact, this particular blog is related to this…..

Over the past few weeks, I’ve went to the front door to get the mail and found a whole pile. The few letters this household actually receives have been buried by manifestos from a whole variety of political parties. This actually angers me a little.

Ok, I know all the parties have the right to be heard, allowing the constituents the chance to make an informed decision when it comes to the 3rd of May. This I don’t have a problem with. The sheer volume of information we are being bombarded with is irritating though.

One of the issues which seems to be at the top of the agenda for most of the parties is the environment and how we can help save it. Well isn’t it ironic that any one of these parties is destroying forests in a bid to bring us that piece of information. Judging by the volume of paper that’s been landing on my doorstep, they’ve chopped down millions of trees.

Another annoyance. Fair enough, the parties need to get their information out there but do they have use really glossy paper in the process? If they were truly committed to the environment, wouldn’t they use thin recycled paper? No, they have to waste taxpayers money on something that it probably just going to land in the bin anyway.

In addition to this, single parties seem to be delivering multiple manifestos, one for each candidate. Why not make a small newspaper detailing all the candidates running in that area for one particular party? That would cut down on the loose sheets of paper landing on the doorstep and only one delivery would need to be made per household.

I wonder what it will be like in the future? Will political parties use per manifestos? Perhaps they will campaign via the internet. Fair enough, emailing manifestos may be regarded as spam but it’s a lot healthier for the environment.

Yup, still here

Hey folks,

Right I’m going to apologise right here for having not updated my blog I over 2 and a half weeks- unacceptable!

So I’m guessing you all think I was too overworked to even bother updating? Well, to an extent that’s true. The full reality is I simply enjoyed my time off a little too much and spent a good deal of time away from the computer.

In other news, I actually got round to filling out my passport for and it’s sent away. Of course, I shall be fleeing the country at some point for a few days. I’d love o g to Canada but I think I’m going to Paris this year (that’s if we can decide what to book!).

Anyway, guess what? Bryan Adams, Glasgow, 1 week today! So excited! Can you tell?! Hopefully the B-stage will still be in use!

I think that’s my cue to leave……..I’ll just start rambling if I don’t.

Brief update

As you may have noticed, the blog is back to the way it was- I didn’t like the default theme very much.  I still prefer this purple one although it’s not quite in keeping with the rest of the site- after all, this blog still looks like the old version of my site.

In the very near future, I’m going to play around with php and see if I can create a theme for my blog that copies the main site.  I had a look at a wee tutorial and it doesn’t look took hard to do- just a little fidgety (heh theres a word for ya!).

So a quick update about whats been happening then.

Sorry to disappoint- I’ve not really been upto very much at all.  Been watching Mythbusters and Due South, been playing guitar, listening to music, playing games (yes, I got Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 4 for the gameboy this week so I’m quite excited!  Good job they play on the DS).

Sadly I still have a lovely 5000 word essay awaiting me.  Now I know I started it some time ago, its just a matter of getting it finished.  After that, all I need to do is make a Java application then attend a VB viva and thats me done second year.  Shocking huh?  Time is flying!

Anyway, I better get going and try to do something constructive with my day!

Construction

Just in case you happen to see the blog in it’s bare-bones form, do not fear!

I’ve been contemplating a redesign for a wee while now and I think now should be the time.  I have an idea for a design, but will need to see how it looks.  Some of the links may be broken in the meantime.

Roll on a change!

Best sci-fi film ever?

Yep here I am again. My third day off and I’m bored already…..

Anyway, I was browsing the BBC website and I saw the results of a poll which asked “Whats the best sci-fi movie?”

What do think? I thought that the majority of people (including myself) would have said Star Wars.

Wrong.

Most people voted for Serenity, created by Joss Whedon (of Buffy fame). Now I’ve never seen Serenity or Firefly but I’ve heard they’re good. But seriously, is Serenity good enough to beat a film as legendary as Star Wars? Surely not.

In all honesty, I’ve hardly seen any of the films on the list but I intend to (so far I’ve seen Star Wars, The Matrix and Back To Thre Future….perhaps I’ve seen the Terminator? I’m not so sure….).

Hmmm…..maybe I should spend my break watching sci-fi?

Relaxing…

Ok, I said I might not be online as much but here I am again. In all fairness, I haven’t spent the entire day in front of the computer like I normally do. I’ve kind of spent the day wandering around.

I still felt stuffy/ill when I got up today and figured that sitting inside wouldn’t help me in the slightest. I ended up wandering around, taking pictures- very relaxing! Photography is something I’ve neglected due to the volume of coursework so it was nice to be back into it again.

I ended up going to my grandparents house, to the cliffs, down the Bakers Brae and then along the main road. Following that I needed to go home because I’d filled my entire memory card. After quickly downloading all my pictures to my laptop I set off again, minus the dog. I headed to the park but it’s not the most exciting place to take photos so I went home again.

After having tea I realised my nose was getting all stuffy again so I headed back to the cliffs and it was absolutely beautiful. It was dusk and there was a full moon in the sky. The moonlight was reflected right across the North Sea. Annoyingly, none of my photographs of this turned out.

Looking west, the sky was a fiery red. Some of the pictures of this turned out ok but it was getting rather nippy and I think there was condensation on the lens.
