Sky

Just to let you know, my 365 (366) challenge is still going on.

Ok, there are a few black images but that’s because I didn’t take a picture ’til night time (working at uni late).

Go see!

And if it was serious?

I didn’t get a chance to blog last week when this particular incident happened but I’m still sitting here thinking about it.

Last Thursday, I got the train into uni at my normal time- the 7.45am. It just started off as an average train journey, nothing out of the ordinary. The train is always a little busy so I was sitting in one of the sideways seats, near the toilet, sitting listening to music.

I saw this man who must have been about 60-70 go into the toilet and he looked really pale. He then came out and went to find the conductor (who happened to be in my bit of the carriage). The man sits down and begins talking to the conductor. Something is wrong. I turn my music off because quite a few of the other passengers have turned round and are looking.

Turned out the man was experiencing chest pains, was sweating profusely and was a helluva colour. I think he was having a heart attack, and the thought of this just made me go numb- that’s what my dad died from.

The conductor had to call 999 which again really freaked me out (again, not the first 999 call I’ve witnessed and it kicked up a lot of memories. I have to say the operators were fecking useless because they didn’t know the street the next station was on. For f*** sake, it’s a major rail station- use google maps.

The ambulance took a wee while to come as well- thought it would have been fairly quick in a small town.

Just hope the guy involved is ok.

I thought that if I was ever in a situation like that, I’d actually be able to deal with it but I didn’t expect it to affect me in the way it did. Felt like I was gonna cry at one point. Kicked up a lot of old memories I thought I’d dealt with.

I Thought I’d Seen Everything…

Any Bryan Adams fans out there? Heard the new single?

Well, it’s called “I Thought I’d Seen Everything” and will be on his new album “11″. Guess what, it’s a free download on HMV. Go on, go get it right now!

It’s a really nice song, summery feeling to it and beautiful lyrics. I wasn’t what I was expecting at all (I thought he was gonna release a rocker first). All the same, it’s a fantastic song so what ya waiting for?

Gutted

Sometimes, I wish I’d started an anonymous blog.  One that didn’t have my name attached to it.  Somewhere I could have a good old rant and not worry about any repercussions.

I’m going to try and write this post and include as little detail possible.

Quite a few of my readers will know that I’ve been part of a project for some time.  Things were slow in the beginning so my input wasn’t really needed.  Over the past 2 months or so, I have had the opportunity to pull my weight and do my work.  I tried my hardest but have felt like it just isn’t good enough.

The pressure was getting to me and due to other commitments, I decided to take a step back, for my benefit and for the benefit of the project.

I thought I’d made a really useful contribution however, in the past week, I’ve found out that none of my work will be used in the final version.

Yes, I’m annoyed.  Actually, I think I feel more disappointed than anything.

Not really sure what else to say…..

New Shoes?

Pain. I’m in pain.

Remember I said I ordered some Dr Martens boots*? Well they arrived on Tuesday. I wore them around the house for a little bit during the week and that was ok. I then decided I’d wear them to uni on Friday. Big mistake.

They started rubbing my heel when I was sitting on the train. By the 2 minutes it took me to walk from the station to the city centre, I knew I had blisters so I quickly nipped into Boot for plasters. Got up to the union and had a look at my feet. No blisters but they were raw. Went to class then had to go to the shops for some cd’s. More pain because the plasters I had fell off.

My heels were really hurting by the time I got the train home, to the point I considered riding the train right up the coast, just to avoid having to get off and walk.

My left heel is the one that is the most rubbed. There’s a good reason for this- although I say I have size 7 feet, my left foot is actually just a size 6 (this is because I couldn’t walk on my left foot properly ’til I was about 10 years old- hip operations and such). It will settle down eventually- the same thing happened with my other Dr Martens except they were easier to break in- they were soft leather and suede.

So, any tips for breaking in a pair of Dr Martens?

One article I read suggested wearing them constantly for 48 hours (even sleeping in them). I tried sleeping in them on Friday night but woke up at 3am Saturday morning because my raw heels were nipping.

Other suggestions I read included running them over in a car, hammering them, tying them to the spoiler of the car and driving around, dipping them in water and walking ’til they are dry.

Any other suggestions?

*I’ve come to the conclusion that they aren’t actually boots. They are torture devices.

10,000

Guess what? I’ve just reached 10,000 songs played on lastfm! That’s one helluva lot of music.

What was the magical 10,000th song? It was “Kids Wanna Rock” by Bryan Adams (the Live! Live! Live! version).

Go see.

Passed, by the skin of my teeth

Got my database exam results yesterday (the exam I did all the way back in December).

How did I get on?

Answer: not well.  Not well at all.  I got a D9 for the exam.  A D9!  The worst possible pass you can get.  Passed by the skin of my teeth.  I just glad I got an A19 for the first part.  Adding the weighting, I have a C13 overall which is better than a kick up the arse.

I’m not really pleased with myself though- I had 2 exams that day: databases in the morning and Java in the afternoon.  I got a D11 for the Java one.  I don’t know, maybe I had a really bad day or something?  Either way I could have tried harder and revised more.  Got to improve for the exams in May, after all, this is my degree year.

Bit annoyed really because I’m know I’m gonna beat myself up over this, even though there’s no point in worrying about it.  What’s done is done.  Can’t go back and change it now.  Just have to concentrate on doing well this semester.

Shopping

Just done a wee bit of shopping and have ordered a few bits and pieces.

Yup, I’ve gone ahead and order my shiny purple Dr Martens hehe. I went to get them from Schuh but they only sell up to size 6. C’mon Schuh, it’s not like size 7 people have odd giant sized feet….why not stock larger sizes?

Oh yeah, and I ordered a few geeky t-shirts- “It wasn’t me it was my muse”, “Girls kick tail” and “Virtuvian Ozy”, all from the Ozy and Millie store.

*looking forward to stuff arriving*

Specs

I got my eyes tested last Saturday and had to go pick up my new glasses this weekend.

I hadn’t had my eyes tested since the beginning of 2006 and knew that my old glasses weren’t quite right (I stopped wearing them when at uni).  The optitian asked me whether I thought my eyes were better or worse.  Me, being the eternal optimist (ha!) said “yeah, I think they are better”.  I really did think they were better even though I know that unless you’re a child, your eyes are unlikely to get better.

Apperantly my prescription was worse, considerably worse in my left eye.Short-sighted with an astigmatism.  Woo.

Got my new glasses yesterday and as soon as I put them on, I thought they were way too strong.  Wore them all day yesterday to the point I had a bugger of a migraine.  Things are much better today- I don’t feel like I’m going cross-eyed and I have proper depth perception again.  I guess my eyes just had to adjust to the new prescription and the new shape of frames.

Err yes, the frames.  As soon as I put them on, my sister yelled “GEEK!”.  Well, I like them :P

Fish!

Yes, I have some news (although it’s kind of old news now).  I got my fish!

I got six of them last Saturday.  I have 2 chocolate orandas, 3 “normal” orandas and one black bubble-eyed fish.

Their names?  The 2 chocolate orandas are named Gibson and Fender (see what I did there?).  The black fish is called Bob.  The three orange fish- Orange, Hitler and Tails.  Ok, now you’re wondering why I have a fish called Hitler, right?  Well it has a black streak on it’s head that could be Hitler hair and it actually has a tiny, wee black line on it’s upper lip that could be a moustache.  Tails is named after Miles “Tails” Prower because he does have two tails and they have white bits on the end (but he’s no fox).

Pictures will follow at some point!
