New Life in the Aquarium?
Last Saturday, I removed all the purple gravel from my aquarium, along with the filter which was pathetic to be perfectly honest. I purchased some bright white stones for the aquarium instead and a filter with double the capacity of the previous one. I was worried how the fish would react and feared that such a large change would disrupt the ph level in the tank. Sadly, I did loose one fish- the fish that reminded me on Randal from Monsters Inc (don’t ask).
On Tuesday, I glanced at the tank and saw that there were these pink blobs amongst the stones at the bottom of the tank. I didn’t give much thought it it, thinking it was some sort of mould or algae. Actually, I mentally cursed the filter for doing a poor job. It wasn’t until the following day when I glanced at the tank again and realised what the blobs were- fish eggs! They look pretty well developed- check out the pic.
Today I’ve been trying to figure out the sex of the adult fish in my tank (not as obvious as one might think
). It turns out that when the male fish are ready to breed, they develop tiny white bumps on their cheeks. So far I think my yellow comet and the fish I called Tails are male. Initially, I thought the largest fish in my aquarium was male too but it turns out she’s female. That makes sense now because Tails and the Comet kept chasing her around. I have a feeling the other 3 fish in the aquarium are also females because they’ve been getting chased around as well.
I feel sorry for the female fish really. The guys won’t stop going after them so the girls must be feeling pretty knackered. Poor things.
Whatever I’ve done to the tank, I’ve made the fish VERY happy
